Church Elder Allegedly Commits Suicide At Bonwire

Residents of Bonwire in the Ejisu District of the Ashanti Region have been left in shock following the suspected suicide of a well-known Presbyterian Church Elder, businessman, and philanthropist.
The deceased, identified as Elvis Asante popularly known in the community as “Chinoo” was believed to be in his early 40s.
Aside from his religious and business engagements, he also served as a Polling Station Organizer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at Bonwire Methodist Primary School.
According to reports, Mr. Asante allegedly used a piece of Kente cloth to tie himself to the hook of a ceiling fan in his room, fastening it around his neck before pulling himself down.
He was later found unresponsive, with his knees resting on a Sofa Chair.
Tenants in the compound house where he lived told Angel News that he was seen around 9:00 a.m. weeding and cleaning the premises.
By 11:00 a.m., he was reportedly preparing to take a bath, as his bucket of water was found at the entrance of the bathroom the last place he was seen.
An eyewitness said the door to the deceased’s room had remained half-open for a long time.
When she peeked in, she discovered him hanging and immediately raised the alarm.
While the circumstances surrounding the act remain uncertain, some residents who spoke on condition of anonymity believe he may have been battling emotional distress.
They claim Mr. Asante had been deeply devastated after being allegedly abandoned by a long-time girlfriend a woman he reportedly supported through teacher training college.
Others suspect business-related and financial pressures may have also played a role in his tragic decision.
Police have since visited the scene and launched investigations to determine the exact cause of death.
The body has been deposited at the Ejisu Government Hospital morgue for autopsy.
