Assin Gangan Chief Cuts Sod For Affordable Housing Project For Cocoa Farmers

The Chief of Assin Gangan in the Assin North District, Nana Kwabena Agyei Ayeh, who also serves as the Divisional Chief of Basofi, has in collaboration with Priority View Homes launched an affordable housing project aimed at benefiting cocoa farmers in the area.
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony, Nana Agyei Ayeh stated that the initiative is designed to encourage farmers to return to cocoa farming and boost production, while also ensuring they have access to decent housing through flexible payment plans.
“It is disheartening to see a cocoa farmer work for over 40 years and still be unable to afford a two-bedroom house,” he lamented.
“This project is meant to restore dignity and hope to our hardworking farmers regardless of the size of their farms.”
He emphasized that if public sector workers can access mortgages, then cocoa farmers who contribute significantly to the nation’s economy deserve the same opportunity.
He urged farmers in the Assin Gangan area to take full advantage of the initiative by being committed and faithful in their payments.
The CEO of Priority View Homes, Mr. Eric Affaidu, echoed the chief’s sentiments, explaining that the project seeks to honor and empower cocoa farmers who have long been marginalized.
“This initiative is long overdue,” he said. “Many cocoa farmers have regretted their decision to enter the trade, despite their vital contribution to the economy, due to the poverty they face.”
According to Mr. Affaidu, the housing project will allow farmers to acquire decent homes and make installment payments with their cocoa beans, not physical cash.
He added that the company is fully committed to the project and plans to expand it to other farming communities.
Meanwhile, several farmers expressed heartfelt gratitude to Nana Agyei Ayeh and Priority View Homes for spearheading a project that addresses the housing challenges faced by cocoa farmers.
