30-Year-Old Illegal Miner Drowns In Pra River At Twifo Bimpong-Agya

A tragic incident has occurred at Twifo Bimpong-Agya in the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District of the Central Region, where a young man, identified as Kwame Mamud and believed to be in his early 30s, drowned while attempting to cross the Pra River in a canoe during an illegal mining operation.

According to Hon. Kennedy Avornu, the Assembly Member for the Bimpong-Agya Electoral Area, the community immediately reported the incident to the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District Police Command and the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO).

Initial search efforts by residents proved unsuccessful. However, following traditional rites and libation performed by local chiefs, the body was eventually retrieved from the river.

Hon. Avornu disclosed that the deceased was a native of northern Ghana who had recently moved to the area to engage in illegal mining. He was not a resident of Twifo Bimpong-Agya.

The body has since been deposited at the Twifo Praso District Hospital mortuary for preservation, while police investigations into the incident are underway.
