Gov’t Called To Create Job Opportunities For Prisoners

The National president of Hope for prisoners and social Justice, Nana Kwaku Duah, has made a passionate appeal to government to as a matter of urgency create some job opportunities for inmates after serving their term in prison.

He disclosed that it’s so sad that inmates when released from the prison don’t get job opportunities because of stigmatization.

He made this statement when Hope for prisoners and social Justice donated some items to the Kumasi central prisons female ward.

The items donated include rice, soap, toiletries, water, cooking oil, and an undisclosed amount of money.

Hope for prisoners and social Justice is a non-governmental organization which seeks to see the welfare of prisoners improved.

Nana Kwaku Duah revealed that the feeding fees for prisoners of 1.80 pesewas should be increased immediately because prison is a reformation center where people come to reform, not to make things worse to their life.

Everyone is entitled to be a potential prisoner; the tide can turn and a prominent individual can become a prisoner, so something should be done about the feeding fees for prisoners.

There are many people in the prisons; when creating jobs, include the inmates because they are all Ghanaians.

Chief Officer Lucy Atta Kwawko, after receiving the items from Hope for prisoners and social Justice, expressed profound gratitude to the NGO.

She disclosed that, there are a lot of vocational training programs in the central prisons with the aim of reforming the inmates so that after serving their term, they will suit back into the community.

Chief Officer Lucy Atta Kwawko disclosed that if you don’t keep eyes on the prisoners, note that you can one day become a prisoner.
