More Land, More Jobs Ekumfi MP Urges Chiefs To Empower Youth In Farming

The Member of Parliament for Ekumfi Constituency, Honorable Othniel Ekow Kwainoe, is appealing to traditional leaders in the area to release more farmlands to the youth to boost employment and economic growth through agriculture.
Speaking during a tour of several farms in Ekumfi, the MP, together with the District Chief Executive, Hon. Ishmeal Nana Asamoah, constituency executives, and party leaders, said farming has proven to be a reliable source of livelihood for many young people.
He cited the example of a farmer who has successfully cultivated 20 acres of watermelon, okro, cabbage, and other vegetables, stressing that more land access for youth will multiply such success stories and transform the local economy.
Hon. Kwainoe also appealed to the chiefs to reduce land levies to encourage more young people into agriculture.
He revealed that he has already supported some farmers financially and with agrochemicals, and was impressed by the results.
For his part, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Ishmeal Nana Asamoah, announced that under President John Dramani Mahama’s policy, plans are far advanced to build a dedicated fruits and vegetables market in Ekumfi.
The facility, he said, will operate 24 hours and provide a ready market for farmers’ produce.
Meanwhile, a large-scale watermelon farmer, Mr. Iforce, testified that farming has helped him build his house, support his family, and assist others.
He thanked the MP for his continuous support but also appealed for more assistance in the form of fertilizers, finance, and equipment to expand production.
Currently, Ekumfi is producing crops such as okro, cabbage, maize, and watermelon in large quantities, and stakeholders are calling on investors to take advantage of the growing agricultural sector in the district.
End.
