Galamsey Pit Collapse At Twifo Mampong -7 Trapped, 3 Confirmed Dead

A devastating incident unfolded in the early hours of Thursday, September 25, 2025, at Twifo Mampong in the Central Region. A galamsey pit collapsed, trapping 7 people underground, with 3 confirmed dead.

The collapse has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the dangers and risks associated with illegal mining activities.

According to reports, the area where the incident occurred is known to have restrictions on certain days, with Tuesdays and Wednesdays being designated as no-go days.

Despite these restrictions, the galamsey operators seemed to have disregarded the rules, leading to the tragic accident.

The area is also known to have many duafs, and they believe that which may have contributed to the collapse.

The Police and rescue teams, including National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) officials and the District Chief Executive for Twifo Atti-Morkwa District, quickly responded to the incident.

They reached the scene and retrieved the dead bodies from the river pra.

The deceased have been taken to the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District Hospital for further examination and identification.
