Africa Must Connect Itself For Data Security- Communication Minister

The Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, says vulnerability of Africa information due to the absence of connectivity among member states continues to undermind Africa’s data security.
He made the remark at the launch of Africa Internent Summit 2025, in Accra.
The Africa Internent Summit brings experts and enthusiasts in the Internent and technological space together to brainstorm on the essence to carry Africa along the growing technological revolution.
This culminated in the equipping of the budding generation in technological programmes even at the lower levels of education.
As the guest speaker at the opening of the summit, Samuel Nartey George, says the need has come for Africa to connect itself to protect data of the continent.
According to the minister, the current situation where Internent traffic from one African country takes detour through other continents before reaching another doed not only raise cost, but also slows down services and weakens residence.
This, he noted has prompted Ghana to be working assiduously with ECOWAS and AU to ensure that true Internent connectivity where Africa’s data remains in Africa is achieved.
The Minister went on state other objectives the collaboration seeks to realise.
Nii Narku Quainor, convenor of the Africa Internent Summit, on his part debunked claims that greater part of the internent space in Africa is used for criminal activities, adding that a chunk of the fraudsters come from outside to undertake their activities.
Nii Narku Quainor, however called for more defensive mechanism in place including educating users of such criminals to always be on alert.
