Odikro Of Obokor Calls For Community-Led Development Over Government Dependency

The Odikro of Abura Obokor and Gyedomhen in the Abura traditional council, Nana Okofo Dankyire Amprofi X (9) has urged the people of his community to prioritize self-reliance and take charge of their own development rather than waiting solely on government intervention.
Speaking during the 2025 Akwabo Festival celebration*, the Odikro highlighted critical challenges faced by the community, including poor road networks, lack of a community center, inadequate toilet facilities, and insufficient education and healthcare infrastructure.
He lamented that since 1972, no proper road construction has been done in the area.
One pressing issue raised by the Odikro was the denial of electricity by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Saltpond branch which left the community in darkness during their festival celebrations.
He appealed to the MP for Abura Asebu Kwaman Kese, Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the District Chief Executive (DCE), and the Energy Ministry to urgently restore power to the community.
The Odikro also encouraged the people of Obokor to unite and collaborate as one community to spearhead their own development projects, emphasizing that self-reliance and collective effort are key to addressing their longstanding challenges.
In response, Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu welcomed the Odikro’s concerns, acknowledging the significant development gaps in the constituency, including roads, hospitals, and schools.
He assured the community that he is committed to resolving these issues within four years, emphasizing that such challenges are a priority for his tenure because the shouter roas link to Abura Asebu Kwaman Kese is the Obokor road.
Adding to the call for unity, the paramount chief of Abura traditional council Omirtimirem Otu XI,(11) stressed the importance of togetherness and cooperation for the progress of the community and the entire Abura State.
He urged all residents to work collectively for sustainable development.
The 2025 Akwabo Festival served as a platform to highlight the critical need for infrastructure and basic amenities in the Obokor community.
It also reinforced the message that while government support is crucial, community members must take proactive steps to ensure their own growth and development.
This is a powerful reminder that progress comes not just from external aid but from the strength and unity of a community determined to shape its future.
