Gwira Eshiem Chief Cries Over Government Neglect, Says His People Are Being Treated Like Slaves

The Chief of Gwira Eshiem, Nana Amoafo II, has lamented what he describes as the government’s continuous neglect of the Gwira enclave, saying his people are being treated like slaves in their own country.

According to the chief, despite being part of Ghana and contributing to national development, the people of Gwira continue to suffer from a lack of basic social amenities.

He bemoaned that the entire Gwira area has no single kilometer of tarred road, no reliable mobile network, and no hospital, and faces a severe shortage of educational materials and teachers.

Nana Amoafo II passionately appealed to the government to “free the people of Gwira from this modern-day slavery” by providing essential infrastructure and improving social services.

He stressed that the community deserves equal attention and development opportunities like any other part of the country.

The chief made this call during the 2025 Gwira Eshiem Yeyianu Festival, celebrated under the theme “Celebrating Culture, Promoting Peace and Unity.”

He urged the government to recognize the potential of the Gwira people and support them with the necessary resources to enhance their standard of living.

Nana Amoafo II further called on the security services to help educate the youth of Gwira Eshiem on the dangers of drug abuse, noting that many young people in the area have fallen victim to drug use, which has led to a rise in theft and other social vices.

He therefore appealed to the government to establish a police station in the community to help combat the issues of drug abuse and crime.

Also speaking at the event, Hon. Ama Tebua, a former NDC parliamentary aspirant, emphasized the importance of festivals in promoting unity and development.

She noted that such occasions not only preserve the rich culture of the people but also create platforms to address critical community challenges, including the growing issue of drug abuse among the youth.

End.
