Sekondi MP Launches Free Bus Transportation To Support Day Students As Schools Reopen

As Senior High Schools reopen across the country, the Member of Parliament for Sekondi, Lawyer Blay Nyamekye Armah, has rolled out a Free Bus Transportation Initiative to support students in Sekondi and five neighbouring constituencies.

The intervention aims to ease the growing financial burden on parents while promoting access to education for all.

The initiative, which starts with three fully branded buses, will serve pupils in primary, junior high, and senior high schools, as well as students of the Takoradi Technical University (TTU) at new site.

The project is entirely funded through the MP’s personal resources and a dedicated Sekondi Education Fund, established to promote access to quality education within the constituency.

Speaking during the launch, Lawyer Blay Nyamekye Armah explained that his motivation stems from the daily struggles many parents face in providing transportation for their wards. He said the initiative is designed to ensure that no student stays home due to a lack of transport fare.

According to the MP, the buses will operate along three major routes — the Takoradi route, starting from Nkotumpo at 6:30 a.m. and conveying students to schools within Sekondi; a second route leaving Sekondi around 6:45 a.m. to serve secondary schools such as Ahantaman and Diabene; and a third route covering the Shama area.

He emphasized that education remains central to his development agenda for Sekondi and its neighbouring constituencies.

He further pledged to expand the programme in the coming years by adding more buses and extending the service to other deprived communities.

Some of the students who benefited from the service on the first day expressed their gratitude, describing the initiative as timely and a great relief for both students and parents.

End.
