President Mahama Reaffirms Commitment To Complete Effia-Nkwanta Hospital Expansion

President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his government’s commitment to completing the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital expansion project during his one-day working visit to the Western Region.

Speaking during an inspection of the project, President Mahama highlighted the need to ease pressure on the existing facility, which has for decades served as the main referral hospital in the region.

He noted that the expansion would transform Effia-Nkwanta into a first-class teaching and referral hospital, capable of providing advanced medical care and training health professionals.

The President also visited the site of the new regional hospital at Apimanim, where construction is ongoing.

He observed that while work there was progressing at a slower pace, the Effia-Nkwanta project was at a more advanced stage.

He said the project was about 45 percent complete.

President Mahama assured the public that his administration is collaborating with the Ministry of Finance and project contractors to validate and settle outstanding claims to enable full resumption of work.

He emphasized the government’s commitment to continuity in governance, stating that governance is like a relay race — one government passes the baton to the next.

According to him, the funds used for the project belong to the Ghanaian taxpayer, and his administration will ensure they are not wasted.

The President expressed optimism that his next visit to the hospital would not be for inspection but for commissioning the completed facility, marking a major milestone in healthcare delivery for the Western Region.
