Ghana Tree Crop Authority Targets Cashew Dominance By 2030

The Ghana Tree Crop Development Authority (TCDA) has declared its intention to make cashew surpass cocoa in production and quality by the year 2030.
To achieve this goal, the Chief Executive Officer of the Authority, Dr. Andy Osei Okrah, has held an engagement with cashew farmers, aggregators, exporters, and buyers in Techiman to discuss practical measures toward meeting the target.
Speaking at the meeting, Dr. Okrah called on all stakeholders in the cashew value chain to play their part in ensuring that Ghana produces high-quality cashew that meets global market standards.
He assured participants that the government remains committed to supporting the industry’s growth through policies, funding, and technical assistance.
“Quality is key if Ghana is to become a leading force in the global cashew market,” he emphasized.
“We must all do our best to maintain standards that will make Ghana’s cashew highly competitive.”
The Techiman North and South Chairman of the Cashew Traders and Exporters Association of Ghana, Mr. Mumuni Isaah, urged all cashew farmers to join the association to benefit from its collective efforts.
He also appealed to farmers to adopt proper harvesting and post-harvest handling practices to maintain quality, stressing that “the world market demands only the best.”
Mr. Isaah further cautioned farmers to be vigilant against bushfires as the dry season approaches, noting that such incidents can destroy entire farms and affect production levels.
Some farmers who attended the engagement expressed their satisfaction with the meeting, describing it as timely and encouraging.
They pledged to follow the guidelines discussed to help the industry achieve the 2030 target.
