Angry Resisents Of Oseneso Destool Their Chief Over Alleged Galamsy Involvement

Residents of Oseneso in the Wassa East District of the Western Region have destooled their chief, Nana Yaw Gyesi I, over allegations of his involvement in illegal mining (galamsey) activities in the community.

According to the residents, Nana Yaw Gyesi I has for over a year been actively engaged in galamsey operations within the area.

They revealed that they had initially intended to destool him last year, but he pleaded for forgiveness and promised to reform.

However, instead of changing, the residents claim the chief intensified his illegal mining activities, bringing more excavators to the site.

Speaking to Angel News, Mr. Kwabena Twum Bariama, one of the community elders and son of the Oseneso queen mother, lamented that the illegal mining operations had led to a rise in teenage pregnancies, school dropouts, and the destruction of the community’s only river, which serves over 10,000 people across 20 communities in the Wassa East and Twifo-Attimorkwa districts in the Western and Central regions.

It was on this basis, Mr . Twum Bariama explained, that the residents unanimously decided to destool the chief.

Some residents of Oseneso expressed their excitement over the decision, describing it as a step toward restoring peace and protecting their environment.

When contacted for his reaction, Nana Yaw Gyesi (I) declined to comment but noted that he would respond at an appropriate time to address the allegations levelled against him.
