Assin Fosu Learner Driver Kills Mother Of Four After Brake Failure

A tragic accident at Assin Fosu in the Central Region on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, around 11:00 a.m., claimed the life of a 40-year-old woman, Gladys Mensah, a mother of four, after a Hyundai truck reportedly driven by a learner lost control and ran over her.

According to police sources, the suspect driver, Benjamin Kwarfo, 26, was teaching his driver’s mate, Eric Ackon, 34, how to drive a Hyundai truck with registration number GR 6146-12, when the vehicle went out of control due to inexperience.

The truck struck Gladys Mensah, who was hawking second-hand clothes and boxer shorts by the roadside near the SDA School at Habitat, a suburb of Assin Fosu.

Eyewitnesses told Angel News’ Shadrack Owusu Asante that the truck dragged the victim for several meters before crashing into a nearby house, causing extensive damage to the building.

They described the scene as horrifying, noting that the woman sustained severe head injuries and bled profusely.

She was rushed to the St. Francis Xavier Hospital, but sadly, she was pronounced dead later that day.

Both the learner driver and the supervising driver have since been detained by police in Assin Fosu to assist with investigations. The vehicle has also been impounded.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the St. Francis Xavier Hospital morgue for preservation.

Residents expressed deep sorrow over the incident and urged authorities to cordon off the partially collapsed structure, warning it posed a serious danger to pedestrians and locals.
