New 100,000m³ Daboase Water Plant Nears Completion As GWCL Targets March 2026 Commissioning

The Managing Director of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), Mr. Adam Mutawakilu, has expressed strong satisfaction with the progress of work on the new Daboase Water Treatment Plant during a working visit to the project site.

He revealed that the facility, which will produce 100,000 cubic metres of water per day, is expected to significantly boost water supply for Daboase and surrounding communities, as well as Takoradi and its adjoining areas.

According to the MD, the project, which began in April 2022, has been ongoing for the past three years and is currently 96% complete, leaving only 4% of finishing works.

Mr. Mutawakilu stated that most structural, electrical, mechanical, and pipeline installations have been finalized, and the remaining tasks involve polishing and system integration.

He announced that, barring any unforeseen setbacks, the plant should be fully ready for production by 9th March 2026, paving the way for its commissioning to benefit residents of the Western Region.

He also commended the contractor for going beyond the initial project scope, citing the construction of a bridge that was not part of the original contract but has now been completed to support GWCL operations.

Another key highlight shared by the MD was the inclusion of two years’ worth of spare parts for the treatment plant.

The Lead Consultant for EAP Consult, Mr. Emmanuel Sasu, also shared insights into the technical performance and progress of the project.

Mr. Sasu commended the contractor for maintaining high engineering standards and adhering to international best practices throughout the construction process.
