Poor Roads, Inadequate Equipment Hindering Emergency Response – Ghana National Ambulance Service

The Ghana National Ambulance Service is facing significant challenges in responding to emergencies due to poor road conditions and inadequate equipment.

The Ashanti Regional Ambulance Manager revealed that the service is struggling to navigate through traffic and respond to emergency cases due to numerous potholes on the roads.

The service is experiencing a high volume of emergency road traffic cases, including head injuries, fractures, and bleeding, but they are not adequately equipped to handle these cases. Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) is currently the only facility equipped to handle head injuries, which puts a strain on the hospital.

In an interview, the manager appealed to the government to equip other hospitals with head CT scans to ease the burden on KATH and improve emergency care in the region.

The service is also calling for an end to discriminatory behavior from some individuals who selfishly use sirens, making it difficult for them to respond to emergencies.

The Ghana National Ambulance Service is urging the government and the public to support their efforts to provide effective emergency services and save lives.

End.
