Energy Commission Reaffirms L.I. 2008 As Foundation Of Wiring Standards And National Electrical Safety

The Energy Commission has reaffirmed that the Electrical Wiring Regulations 2011 (L.I. 2008) remain the bedrock of Ghana’s wiring standards and a key safeguard for national electrical safety.

The Commission stressed that L.I. 2008 protects lives and property by ensuring that only trained and certified professionals undertake electrical wiring in Ghana.

This was highlighted by the Deputy Executive Secretary, Mr. Chris Yalley, during the graduation ceremony of 15 youth under the Community Youth Apprenticeship Training Program organized by the Goldfields Foundation in Tarkwa.

The program combines classroom training, industrial attachment, and entrepreneurship preparation to equip participants for sustainable careers.

Mr. Yalley praised Goldfields for empowering young people and noted that the graduates are now ready to deliver safer and more professional electrical services.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Tarkwa Mine Manager, Dr. Catherine Kuupol Kuutor, applauded the graduates for their perseverance and commitment throughout the training period.

She noted that the programme is not only transforming individual lives but also strengthening the capacity of communities along the Takoradi–Tarkwa corridor.

Dr. Kuutor explained that, for this pilot phase, 15 youths from the Tarkwa mine host communities, five females and ten males were enrolled, trained, and have now successfully graduated.

Some of the beneficiaries thanked the foundation and had this to say
