Ntweafo Royal Family Appeal To Pres.Mahama And IGP Over Supposed Political Interference In Eastern Nzema Paramount Stool Affairs

Chiefs and members of the Ntweafo Royal Family of Atuabo in the Eastern Nzema Traditional Area of the Western Region are appealing to President John Dramani Mahama and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, to urgently intervene in what they describe as growing political interference in the paramount stool affairs of the area.

According to the chiefs, certain politicians within the current government are meddling in traditional processes to influence the enstoolment of a new Paramount Chief, despite the area already having a legitimately installed and widely recognized leader, Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli III.

They stressed that the existing Paramount Chief has long served in various high-level roles within the Regional House of Chiefs and remains the rightful occupant of the stool.

The chiefs expressed grave concern that increasing political involvement in their customs is undermining long-standing traditions and threatening the peace and unity of the Eastern Nzema Traditional Area.

They reiterated their call for a clear separation between traditional authority and partisan political interests.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Nana Kwame Bentum II, Chief of Salma, urged politicians to focus on their responsibilities within their constituencies instead of interfering in chieftaincy matters.
“We are calling on President Mahama to call these politicians to order,” he stated.

“We also appeal to the IGP to caution some police officers whose actions could lead to unrest in our area.”

He further alleged that the Paramount Chief’s palace has recently been taken over by an individual who is not a chief, claiming that the person is receiving police protection reportedly facilitated by political figures.

According to the chiefs, the situation escalated after an alleged assassination attempt and the ransacking of the palace, following which the perpetrator has reportedly moved into the palace with impunity.

They insist that the matter requires immediate attention to protect tradition, preserve peace, and avert further tension within the Eastern Nzema Traditional Area.

End.
