Nzema East Mce Condemns Adelekezo Clash, Calls For Calm

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Nzema East Municipal in the Western Region, Herbert Kuah Dickson, has condemned the violent clash between the youth of Adelekezo and JAS Mining Company and has called on residents to remain calm as investigations continue.

Mr. Kuah Dickson assured residents of Adelekezo, a farming community near Axim, of the Assembly’s commitment to thoroughly investigate the circumstances that led to the incident, which occurred last weekend.

The clash resulted in the death of a 14-year-old boy, the burning of vehicles and excavators, and the destruction of other valuable properties belonging to the mining company.

Some persons also sustained injuries during the disturbance.

The MCE condemned the actions of both parties and stressed that no individual will be shielded if found culpable in orchestrating the violence that led to the fatal shooting of the minor.

He emphasized the need for cooperation with security agencies to help restore peace and order in the community.

Mr. Kuah Dickson revealed that during earlier engagements with the community, the Assembly had cautioned residents and landowners against engaging foreign nationals, particularly Chinese operators, in any form of mining activities.

However, he noted that these warnings were ignored, as some landowners went ahead to lease their lands for mining, a situation he says contributed to the chaos.
