Tema Records Decline In Fire Outbreaks As GNFS Steps Up Christmas Safety Education

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in the Tema Region has recorded a total of 536 fire outbreaks from January to November 2025, representing a decline from the 570 cases recorded during the same period in 2024.

A breakdown of the figures shows that domestic fires reduced from 177 cases in 2024 to 170 in 2025.

Fires in commercial establishments also saw a significant drop, with 115 cases recorded in 2025 compared to 148 last year.

Speaking during a fire safety education exercise ahead of the Christmas festivities, the Tema Regional Public Relations Officer of the GNFS, DOIII Ebenezer Yenzu, attributed the high incidence of domestic fires largely to slum and poorly planned areas.

According to him, the sensitisation exercise was organised to educate residents on the importance of observing basic fire safety measures, particularly as activities increase during the festive season.

Mr. Yenzu further outlined key safety precautions that members of the public, including churches, should observe during the Christmas period to prevent fire outbreaks.

A resident who participated in the exercise described the education as insightful, noting that the lessons learned would help improve fire safety practices within the community.
