Residents Of Gomoa Abrekum Lament Open Defecation Challenges

Residents of Gomoa Abrekum in the Gomoa West District of the Central Region have expressed deep concern over the increasing practice of open defecation in their community.

Speaking to Angel TV reporter Nana Kojo Asare, residents explained that open defecation, particularly along the coastal areas, has been a long-standing practice for decades, a situation they say is posing serious health risks and could lead to disease outbreaks.

In an effort to address the challenge, the community has taken steps to provide a 24-seater public toilet facility to serve residents. Additionally, part of a classroom block has been converted into a temporary CHIPS compound to support healthcare delivery in the area.

The Odikro of Gomoa Abrekum, Nana Kweku Otabil X, has also contributed by providing a CHIPS compound for the community.

However, residents say the facility is yet to be completed and are appealing to the Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Richard Gyan, to support the completion of the project.

Meanwhile, the Assemblyman for the area, Hon. Robert Nyarko, used the opportunity to outline some measures being taken by the Assembly to ensure the completion of the CHIPS compound to help improve sanitation and healthcare delivery in the community.

End.
