We Urged President John Mahama To Fix Cashew Price Fluctuations – Chief Of Nyamfie In Jaman South Pleads

The Chief of Nyamfie, in the Jaman South Municipal of the Bono Region, Nana Adjei Attakorah Amaniampong, has implored President Mahama to undertake immediate and decisive measures to mitigate the ongoing fluctuations in cashew prices, which have adversely impacted local farmers in the cashew-producing areas.

Nana Adjei Attakorah Amaniampong underscored the urgent necessity for stability in the cashew market prices, as unpredictable pricing not only jeopardizes the livelihood of individuals reliant on cashew for their income but also hampers the overall growth potential of the cashew industry within the country.

Nana again challenged the claims that Sampa, situated in the Jaman North District, serves as the principal hub of cashew production.

He elucidated that the inception of cashew production in Ghana originated in Jaman South and so Jaman South is indeed the hub of cashew production, with numerous cashew purchasing companies operating within the Municipality.

He noted that Sampa enjoys recognition in cashew production primarily due to its proximity to the Ivory Coast.

Hon. Osei Kwasi Owusu, an Assembly Member of Kwadwokesekrom in the Jaman South Municipality, urged cashew farmers in the region not to lose hope in cashew production by cutting down their plantations.

He encouraged them to place their trust in the effective governance of President Mahama and the Minister of Agriculture to address the challenges faced by cashew farmers, thereby ensuring favorable pricing to enhance production.

Furthermore, he appealed to the government to consider establishing a cashew processing factory in Jaman South, emphasizing that the area is the largest producer of cashew and that such a facility would significantly contribute to efficient cashew production within the municipality.

Mr. Adam Takyie, (AKA) “Born Again,” a cashew farmer, commended the Minister of Agriculture for his outstanding leadership.

He urged both the Ministry and the government to prioritize the integration of technology and digital innovation in the agricultural sector, recognizing the global shift towards technology and digitalization.

Mr. Takyie emphasized that employing technology in cashew production will significantly benefit cashew farmers and foster the advancement of cashew production in the country, particularly in Jaman South.
