Cape Coast To Establish Sanitation Court In 2026 — Mayor

The Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) for Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly, Hon. George Justice Arthur, has voiced serious concern over the lack of commitment by some residents in maintaining a clean environment in the metropolis.

Mr. Arthur made this disclosure during a sanitation exercise in Cape Coast, organized by the Central Regional Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) in collaboration with LCB Worldwide Ghana Limited to fumigate all marketplaces in the metropolis.

Addressing the media, Hon. Arthur noted that while some residents actively participate in cleanup activities, many others show little or no interest in keeping their surroundings clean.

He stressed that this cannot continue, as environmental cleanliness is vital to public health and development.

The MCE announced that the Assembly will intensify efforts to ensure full participation in sanitation activities next year, with enforcement of sanitation laws as a top priority.

“Enforcement of the law is very necessary going forward,” Hon. Arthur stated. “We are going to make sure that the laws are respected, and no one will be allowed to go scot-free.

”He revealed plans to establish a Sanitation Court in 2026, dedicated to prosecuting individuals who deliberately refuse to join mandatory cleanup exercises or violate sanitation regulations.

Court will be fully structured, with assigned lawyers and judges to handle cases, and offenders will face prosecution in line with the law.

Speaking to the media, Central Regional GUTA Chairman Mr. Kofi McCarthy said their plan is to cover market centers within the metropolis, bringing relief to traders as they conduct business during and after Christmas.

He assured that GUTA will continue collaborating with LCB Worldwide Ghana Limited to fumigate other marketplaces in the region.

End.
