Government Grants Permits For Responsible Co-operative Mining In Anwia And Teleku Bokazo

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, has handed over mining operating permits to the Anwia and Teleku Bokazo Responsible Cooperative Mining Society Ltd in the Ellembelle District, marking the official rollout of the Responsible Co operative Mining and Skills Development.

The initiative is part of a broader series of measures by the ministry aimed at curbing illegal mining, promoting responsible mining practices, while creating alternative livelihood opportunities.

Government, through the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, remains resolute in its fight against illegal mining, as it rolls out a series of interventions and strengthened regulatory enforcement mechanisms.

The latest intervention is the issuance of mining operating permits to the Anwia and Teleku Bokazo, both communities in the Ellembelle District, marking the rollout of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme.

The two communities are the first beneficiaries of the initiative and have been granted access to mine at an abandoned concession of Adamous Mining Limited, which is believed to contain significant mineral deposits.

According to the lands minister, the programme is a key intervention designed to eliminate harmful mining practices, particularly the use of mercury.

The Chief Executive Officer of RCOMSDEP, urged members of the cooperatives to remain law-abiding and adhere strictly to responsible mining practices.

The district chief executive for Ellembelle Hon. Joseph Agyekum on his part urged the miners not to do anything to disgrace the minister who is also their mp.
