Improving Quality Healthcare Assin North MP Commissions New Health Facility As Christmas Gift To Krofofrodo Residents

In a significant move to enhance healthcare access in rural communities, the Member of Parliament for Assin North and Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. James Gyakye Quayson, has commissioned a new Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound at Assin Krofofrodo in the Central Region.

Describing the project as a “Christmas gift” to the people, the MP stated that the intervention was in response to the community’s urgent healthcare needs.

The fully equipped facility includes nurses’ accommodation, a storeroom, a kitchen, a detention room, a Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) centre, modern washrooms, and a sanitary facility.

Hon. Quayson expressed concern about reports that residents, including pregnant women, had to travel long distances to Assin Fosu to access healthcare, resulting in avoidable deaths.

“It broke my heart to hear that people were losing their lives just trying to get medical care. No one deserves that,” he said.

“This facility is for you, and it marks the beginning of better healthcare access for everyone in the area.”

The facility will serve several surrounding communities including Subinso No. 1 & 2, Afenase, Krofofrodo, Wawase, Bekawopa, Taylor Nkwanta, Nkanproase, Small London, Kwaem, and

Hon. Quayson also praised the residents for initially starting the facility as a community self-help project and seeking his support to complete it.

District Health Director, Dr. Jethro Asare Brobbey, commended the MP’s efforts, noting that the CHPS compound would provide preventive healthcare, RCH services, malaria treatment, and outreach programs.

He encouraged residents to patronize the facility and support the nurses posted there, adding a plea for a motorbike to help improve service delivery.

Excited residents shared that the facility was long overdue, revealing that many pregnant women had died due to the lack of a nearby clinic.

As a show of gratitude, some have vowed to name their children after the MP for his life-saving intervention.
