IMF Statement On Gold Board Ceo Unfortuate; Governmet Urged To Stay Focused

CONCERNED DRIVERS ASSOCIATION OF GHANA (CDAG) – REGIONAL EXECUTIVES*

*IMF STATEMENT ON GOLD BOARD CEO UNFORTUNATE; GOVERNMENT URGED TO STAY FOCUSED

The Regional Executives of the Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana (CDAG) have taken note of recent statements and developments surrounding the Chief Executive Officer of the Gold Board, Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, and wish to express our firm position on the matter.

We are convinced that the ongoing narrative targeting the Gold Board CEO is a deliberate ploy by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to sabotage the credibility and effective work of Mr. Sammy Gyamfi and the institution he leads.

This attempt at political distraction must not be allowed to derail the progress being made in stabilising the economy.

As an association, we ask a simple but critical question: When Ghana was under the IMF program during the administration of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, what tangible relief did drivers and ordinary Ghanaians experience?

Fuel prices remained volatile, the cedi depreciated sharply, and the cost of living worsened, placing unbearable pressure on commercial drivers and commuters alike.

Today, however, the situation tells a different story.

The relative stability of the dollar and the improved management of fuel prices are clear indications that pragmatic economic measures are yielding results.

We, the drivers who feel the impact of fuel prices daily, acknowledge that the work of the Gold Board, under the leadership of Mr. Sammy Gyamfi has contributed significantly to this stability.

We therefore commend the hard work and commitment of the Gold Board CEO and his team.

The recent IMF statement concerning Mr. Sammy Gyamfi is, in our view, unfortunate, unnecessary, and fails to appreciate the local impact of the policies currently being implemented.

The Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana urges the government to remain focused, resolute, and committed to managing the economy even better than it is today.

Any attempt to undermine institutions and individuals working in the national interest should be firmly resisted.

As stakeholders in the transport sector, we are pleased with the current trend in fuel price management and currency stability.
