Tema Police Gun Down Three Armed Robbers, Arrested One In Foiled Afienya Robbery

The Tema Regional Police Command has arrested members of a notorious armed robbery gang that has been terrorising the Tema metropolis and its surrounding communities for years.

According to the police, the gang, believed to be made up of about fifteen members, has been responsible for a series of violent robberies across the area.

Through sustained intelligence-led and targeted operations, several members of the gang have already been arrested and arraigned before court.
Some are currently on remand, others are on bail, while remaining suspects are still being pursued.

Addressing the media at a press conference, the Head of Public Affairs of the Tema Regional Police Command, ASP Dede Dzakpasu, disclosed that in the early hours of December 29, 2025, police patrol teams encountered four members of the gang who were on a robbery mission in the Afienya–Mataheko area.

She explained that the encounter led to a fierce exchange of gunfire, during which three of the suspects were shot dead, while one was arrested.

The deceased suspects were identified as Kwabena Azuwebi, also known as “Lastman,” Yaro Bawku, and Faisal.
They were rushed to the Police Hospital for treatment but were pronounced dead on arrival.

Another suspect, Kassim Hussein, who sustained gunshot wounds, initially escaped but was later recaptured after police tactically lured him into revealing his hideout.

During interrogation, he disclosed details of the gang’s operations and mentioned other members.
He was taken to the hospital for medical care but later died while receiving treatment.

Police recovered one AK-47 rifle, one Taurus pistol loaded with six rounds of ammunition, two cutlasses, and two Royal motorbikes—one unregistered and the other bearing registration number M-25-GT-4243 which were used by the suspects. All exhibits have been retained to aid ongoing investigations.

The bodies of the deceased suspects have been deposited at the Police Hospital Mortuary pending autopsy.

ASP Dede Dzakpasu assured residents of Tema and its surrounding communities that the Tema Regional Police Command remains committed to maintaining law and order and will continue to deal decisively with criminal elements.
