Dansame Accident Driver Of Church Bus To Be Arraigned For Causing Death And Injuries — Police Confirm

The Central North Regional MTTD Commander, ASP Wonder Lumor, has disclosed that the driver of the bus involved in the tragic Assin Dansame accident will be arraigned before court today.

The driver is facing charges of overspeeding and inconsiderate driving, which led to the death of two people and injuries to several others.

The incident occurred last Thursday, January 1, 2026, when a bus branded with Wesley Methodist Church, Breman Asikuma, carrying members of Second Chance Ministry, ploughed into a large crowd of youth participating in a street procession (locally known as a “float”) along the Cape Coast–Kumasi Highway.

According to police, the driver voluntarily reported himself to law enforcement shortly after the crash.

In a fit of anger and shock, some of the youth who witnessed the incident vandalised the vehicle, smashing its windscreen, windows, and other parts.

ASP Wonder Lumor condemned the organisers of the float for failing to notify the police ahead of time.

He emphasised that holding such processions, especially at night, poses serious risks.

He warned that floats or processions after 7 p.m. are not permitted without prior police notification.

The MTTD Commander also provided an update on the casualties, stating that 2 died on the spot, 14 people were seriously injured, with 5 already discharged from the hospital.

He added that the police have since engaged both the church leadership and the youth organisers, offering guidance and issuing cautions to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
