Health Workers At Diabene CHPS Call For Beds, Sterilization Equipment

Health workers at the Diabene Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) Compound in the Western Region have appealed for essential medical equipment, including hospital beds, mattresses, delivery beds, and an autoclave, to improve healthcare delivery at the facility.

The appeal was made by the Facility Head, Diana Ajoaba, during a donation ceremony where a UK-based humanitarian group, Twin City Union, donated medical items to three CHPS compounds, Diabene CHPS, Sekondi Market CHPS, and Aboadzi–Aboasi CHPS.

Speaking on behalf of the administrative staff, Ms. Ajoaba expressed deep appreciation for the support, describing the donation as timely and impactful.

She explained that the facility currently lacks an autoclave for proper sterilization of instruments used for wound care, deliveries, and minor surgical procedures, forcing staff to rely on boiling equipment, a practice she described as inadequate for modern healthcare delivery.

She therefore appealed to benevolent individuals, organizations, and the general public to support the facility with the needed equipment.

The President of Twin City Union, Paa Kwasi Cromwell, said the donation was motivated by the healthcare challenges residents face when accessing services at the community level.

He noted that during visits home, patients are often advised to seek care at private facilities due to the lack of basic equipment at public health centres an option he says many elderly residents and vulnerable community members cannot afford.

Mr. Cromwell added that strengthening healthcare delivery within communities would significantly benefit elderly residents who face transportation challenges and cannot easily travel to distant facilities for treatment.

He disclosed that Twin City Union selected Diabene CHPS, Sekondi Market CHPS, and Aboadzi–Aboasi CHPS as beneficiaries to ensure balanced support across the region.
