Government Alone Cannot Deliver The Transmation We Seek—Local Government, Chieftaincy Minister

The Bredi Nkyifie Yam Festival is a sacred celebration of harvest, gratitude and identity.

Nana Owusu Sakyi III, the Paramount Chief of Bassa Traditional Area and the Bono East Regional House of Chiefs President on his fifteen(15) years marks of instoolment and service to the people of the Bassa Traditional Area which was significant.

Nana Owusu Sakyi III on his speech appeals to the government of Ghana in addressing so critical development needs that will greatly improve the livelihood of their people.

The Bono East Regional House of Chiefs President,Nana Owusu Sakyi III,made a humble request for the establishment of a modern market for the Bassa Traditional Area.

According to him,a well-structured market will enhance the local commerce, create employment, support their farmers and traders, moreover, strengthen the local economy.

He continues to appeal, for the elevation of their existing Bassa health clinic to a status of a poly-clinic.

He explained that, quality health care remains a major concern for the people of Bassa and it areas.

Added that such facilities will help to reduce preventable illnesses, maternal and child mortality and the needs for long-distance travel for medical care.

Finally,Nana Owusu Sakyi III, lamented the bad quality education in the far east of Bono East region.

To the regards of quality education, the Bono East Regional House of Chiefs President call on government to invest in human capital and the future of Ghanaian youth.

Again request the establishment of a tertiary institutions like, College of Nursing or College of Education within the Bassa Traditional Area.

Nana Owusu Sakyi III, the Paramount Chief of Bassa explained that, the tertiary institutions will not only expand access to higher education but also contribute to national development by training skilled professional to serve Ghana.

The government officials who marked 15 years Bredi Nkyifie Yam Festival with the Bono East Regional House of Chiefs President were,Hon Johnson Asiedu Nketia, National chairman for the NDC, Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs,Hon.Ahmed Ibrahim and the Bono East Regional Minister,Hon Francis Owusu Antwi and the MMDCE’S of far east of Bono East region.

On the occasion,the National chairman for the NDC,Hon Johnson Asiedu Nketia emphasized that, Chiefs remain custodians of our culture, guarantors of peace, and indispensable partners in grassroots development.

According NDC National chairman, Government led by H E John Dramani Mahama will continue to deepen collaboration between traditional institutions and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to accelerate development at the local level.

On the response of the request of Bassa Traditional Area, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs led by Hon Ahmed Ibrahim said, the ministry remain committed to creating an enabling environment for such community -led initiatives to succeed.

Hon Ahmed Ibrahim assured the paramount chief of Bassa and the people of Bassa Traditional Area that their aspirations will be brought to the attention of the appropriate agencies for collaboration and support.

Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs clearly said, Government alone cannot deliver the transition they seek.

He therefore call on Traditional Leaders, political authorities, religious bodies, women, youth, and all citizens of Bassa Traditional Area to continue working together in peace, mutual respect and shared Responsibilities.

Ministry of Local Government commended that, the proposed construction of a Health Center for Kwame Duro and Bassa Senior High school is highly commendable.
He finally emphasized that it addresses a real and pressing need for access to quality healthcare for students,staff, and surrounding communities.

He further explain to the people of Bassa, Government recognizes health and education as critical pillars of national development, and said when communities take initiative in these areas,it reinforces participatory development.

The president for the Bono East region,Hon Francis Owusu Antwi,the regional minister shown much appreciations to the national delegates led by Hon Johnson Asiedu Nketia, National chairman for the Nana Democratic Congress(NDC).

The Bono East Regional Minister continue to laments the issues of the Chieftaincy battle in the region, according to him there are 42 serious Chieftaincy issues which is pending at both law court and the traditional court.

Pleaded with the Chieftaincy ministry to help him and the entire Bono East to resolve the matters.
