The Divisional Chief of Ampansie, Nana Kojo Mensah, together with some NDC executives in Gwira Ampansie in the Western Region, has called on the President and the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources to urgently deploy Naimos and National Security operatives to curb the growing galamsey menace in the area.

According to the Chief and the youth leaders, efforts to eradicate illegal mining are being undermined by unknown miners, including a company identified as PRP, which they allege is operating without the required permits and licenses.

He stressed that the activities of these miners pose a serious threat to the livelihoods and future of the people of Ampansie.

The group also accused the Minerals Commission of sitting idly by while the alleged illegal mining activities continue, despite repeated complaints to the appropriate authorities.

“Our land, water bodies, and forest are being destroyed right before our eyes,” Nana Kojo Mensah lamented. “We cannot stand idly by while our future is being destroyed.

We need the government to act now by deploying Naimos and National Security to stop these illegal miners.

“The people of Ampansie are suffering, and it is time the government listens and takes decisive action,” one of the executives stated.

The community is further calling on the authorities to investigate the activities of PRP and ensure that all individuals found to be operating illegally are brought to justice.
