Salaga-South MP Leads Engagement With Narcotic Control Commission On Establishment Of District Office In Salaga

Earlier today, I had the honour of receiving a delegation from the Narcotic Control Commission (NCC), led by the Savannah Regional Commander, Madam Patricia Rashida Ewuntomah, as part of preparatory activities toward the establishment of a Narcotic Control Commission District Office in Salaga.
The visit follows a formal request from my office for the creation of a district office in Salaga, taking into account the long distance between our Municipality and the regional capital, as well as the alarming increase in cases of drug abuse, particularly among the youth.
The establishment of a district office is therefore a necessary and timely intervention to strengthen the fight against illicit drug use in the Municipality.
In the company of the regional team, we paid a courtesy call on His Royal Highness, the Kpembewura, Banbange Ndefoso IV, at his palace in Kpembe to officially inform him of the initiative and to seek his blessings.
In his remarks, the Kpembewura, on behalf of his chiefs and queen mothers, expressed his readiness and enthusiasm to collaborate with the Narcotic Control Commission and all relevant stakeholders to ensure the successful establishment of the district office in Salaga.
He highlighted his deep concern about the growing rate of drug abuse and its destructive impact on the future of the youth in the Municipality, and consequently gave his full blessing for the process to proceed.
Speaking at the palace, the Savannah Regional Commander, Madam Patricia Rashida Ewuntomah, noted that the distance between Salaga and the regional capital has posed significant challenges to the effective delivery of NCC services, especially in the face of limited resources.
She described the request for a district office as timely and necessary, and assured the Kpembewura that once the office is established, the Commission will work closely with traditional authorities, the Member of Parliament, the Municipal Assembly, and all other stakeholders to reduce the incidence of drug abuse in the area.
Following the visit to the palace, we proceeded to the Business Resource Centre, where a temporary office space has been earmarked for the proposed district office.
The regional team expressed satisfaction with the facility and reaffirmed their commitment to engaging their superiors to expedite the establishment of the office.
In my remarks as the Member of Parliament for the area, I expressed my profound appreciation to my sister, the Regional Commander, and her team for their swift response and commitment.
I reiterated that the Salaga Municipality is one of the hotspots for drug abuse and illicit drug activities, a situation that is gradually eroding the future of our youth.
The approval of my request for the establishment of a district Narcotic Control Commission office in Salaga is therefore a most welcome and timely decision.
Once operational, the office will significantly support our efforts to sensitise the youth on the dangers of drug abuse and encourage them to channel their energies into productive and meaningful ventures.
On behalf of the good people of the Salaga-South Constituency, and in my capacity as their Member of Parliament, I extend my deepest appreciation to my brother, Hon. Muntaka Mubarak, the Minister for the Interior, for his support.
I also wish to once again commend and thank the Savannah Regional Narcotic Control Commission team for their cooperation and continued commitment to safeguarding the future of our youth.
