7 Perish, 18 Injured As GNFS Swiftly Responds To Fatal Road Crash At Komenda Asamasa

At 7:25 pm on Monday, January 12, 2026, the Komenda Fire Station responded to a fatal road traffic accident at Komenda Asamasa along the Cape Coast–Takoradi Highway involving a Sprinter Bus (GS 6705-21) travelling from Komenda towards Takoradi, and a Man Diesel Truck (GS 8394 Y) travelling from Takoradi towards Cape Coast.

GNFS rescuers arrived promptly and extricated six (6) trapped victims from the Sprinter bus, which had veered into a nearby bush.

All six (6) were pronounced dead on arrival at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, while another casualty (female) who had earlier been taken to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital was also pronounced dead, bringing the total fatalities to seven (7).

The six (6) deceased extricated by GNFS comprised three (3) females, including a pregnant woman, one (1) baby, and three (3) males.

Additionally, eighteen (18) people who sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rescued before the arrival of the GNFS rescue team are currently receiving medical treatment at the hospital.

According to eyewitness accounts, the Man Diesel truck travelling from Takoradi towards Cape Coast lost control while overtaking another vehicle and collided head-on with the Sprinter bus travelling in the opposite direction.

After the rescue operation, GNFS personnel cleared debris from the roadway to restore the free flow of traffic and ensure safety at the accident scene.
