Sofoline Traders Threaten To Withhold Tax Over Refuse Crisis

Traders at Sofoline Market in Kumasi are up in arms over the deplorable state of their environment, threatening to stop paying taxes if the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) and relevant authorities fail to address the issue. The traders, who claim to be paying their taxes regularly, are being forced to trade amidst heaps of refuse and filthy conditions.

“We are tired of paying taxes to trade in this dirty environment. If the KMA and Kwadaso authorities don’t come to clean up the mess, we’ll stop paying taxes and use the money to hire people to clean the place ourselves,” one trader fumed.

The traders are appealing to the authorities to take drastic action to address the refuse crisis, which is not only affecting their health but also their business.

The situation is getting worse by the day, with piles of garbage accumulating at the market and the lorry terminals.
