Physically Challenged Delegate Why He Crawled 40 Metres Participate In The Voting Process

A 37-year-old physically challenged New Patriotic Party (NPP) polling station secretary, Mr Frank Nti, crawled approximately 40 metres on his knees and palms through rugged terrain to cast his vote in the Party’s presidential primaries at Assin Fosu in the Assin Central Constituency.

The incident attracted the attention of delegates and onlookers, many of whom paused in disbelief as Mr Nti made his way to the Roman Catholic School polling centre.

Despite the dusty path, rough gravel and scorching sun, the two-term Polling Station Secretary remained resolute and continued steadily until he reached the voting centre.

Some delegates openly expressed surprise at the scene, with one remarking, “I have never seen anything like this,” while others wondered aloud if he needed assistance.

Mr Nti, however, did not pause or retreat, demonstrating firm determination to participate in the exercise.

Mr Nti, a lotto forecaster and father of three, described his participation in the primaries as an unassailable democratic right and stressed its importance to Ghana’s democratic development.

“I am a human being like any other, so I will not allow my physical challenge to discourage me,” he told Angel News.

He expressed appreciation to the Ghana Police Service for assisting him to navigate the polling centre and commended officials of the Electoral Commission (EC) for their support during the voting process.

According to Mr Nti, EC officials provided him with a chair to enable him to sit and thumbprint, as he was unable to stand, a gesture he described as thoughtful and helpful.

He urged persons with disabilities to actively participate in politics and advocate for their causes rather than remain on the sidelines, and pledged his support to whoever emerges victorious in the contest.
