Assin Brasiako Fire Officers Narrowly Escaped The Wrath Of Angry Residents After A Fire Destroyed A Four-Bedroom House.

Fire officers from Abura-Dunkwa and Assin Fosu narrowly escaped an attack by angry youth at Assin Brasiako in the Assin North District of the Central Region after a devastating fire razed a four-bedroom house.

The situation nearly turned chaotic but for the timely intervention of the Assembly Member for the area, Professor Elisha Sarpong, officials of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), and some opinion leaders in the community.

The aggrieved youth blamed the fire officers for what they described as a delayed response, which they believed contributed to the complete destruction of the building.

Properties destroyed in the inferno included refrigerators, television sets, mattresses and other household appliances worth thousands of cedis.

Out of anger, some of the youth confronted the fire officers and threatened them, warning them not to go near the scene as the property had already been consumed by the fire.

However, Hon. Elisha Sarpong managed to calm the agitated residents and ensured that the fire officers were allowed to carry out their lawful duties without intimidation.

Some of the angry youth spoke to Angel News correspondent Kwame Owusu Asante Shadrack of Rich FM.

Meanwhile, the Assin Fosu District Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service, DOII Paul Tawiah, explained that the only fire tender serving Assin North, Assin South and Assin Central had broken down after attending to a previous emergency.

He noted that the service had to rely on fire tenders from Abura-Dunkwa or New Adubiase, which are more than two hours drive, accounting for the delay in response and not any deliberate inaction.

Hon. Elisha Sarpong further revealed that this incident marks about the fifth fire outbreak in the Assin North area within the past three months, resulting in the destruction of properties worth millions of cedis belonging to residents.

He attributed the recurring losses to the lack of a functional fire tender and fire stations in the area and appealed to government to urgently establish fire stations within Assin North to curb the increasing incidents.
