Watermelon Sellers In Ashanti Region Suffer: “Fruits Are Rotting Away.

Watermelon sellers in the Ashanti Region are struggling with low sales and huge losses as fruits rot in the market.

Despite being in season, prices have skyrocketed from 30,000 to 90,000 Cedis, with transportation costs adding another 10,000 Cedis, making it 1 billion.

Naomi Serwaa, Ashanti Region Watermelon Sellers’ leader, is pleading for support.

“Ghanaians only eat watermelon when they like, but they don’t know its nutritional value,” she told Angel Tv News reporter Bismark Mensah.

She is urging Ghanaians and the government to support their business to avoid further losses. With the current situation, many are worried they might have to abandon their livelihoods.

Madam Naomi Serwaa is appealing to consumers to take advantage of the fruit’s nutritional benefits, including high water content and vitamins, and patronize it for them.

They’re also calling on the government to help address the challenges they’re facing in the watermelon business.
