Mce Taskforce Clashes And Busts Non-Paying Sand Miners At Site.
In a bold move to meet its 2026 revenue targets,the Komenda Edina Eguafo-Abrem Municipal Assembly (KEEA) has launched a crackdown on illegal sand mining.
A taskforce led by Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Ismael Zagoon Saeed arrested sand miner driver operating without paying required fees to the assembly, the team, which included the assembly’s budget officer, planning officer, and works department staff, conducted unannounced raids on key sand mining sites.
They questioned operators and impounded vehicles from non-compliant miners.
Speaking to the media after the arrests, Hon. Saeed revealed that many in the sand mining sector have been evading payments.
“upon our search to these sites,it came to light that several sand miners in this municipality are operating without paying fees to the assembly,” he issued a stern caution to all sand miners extracting resources from municipal land without payment, affirming that anyone mining without assembly approval will face full prosecution going forward.
Furthermore, tensions ran high at one site, where an exchange of words between the MCE and a sand miner driver led directly to the driver’s arrest.
The assembly says these operations will continue to safeguard revenue and ensure compliance.
