Sanitation Committee Engages Water Agencies Over Urban Water Supply Challenges.

The Parliamentary Committee on Sanitation has convened a crucial meeting with the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) and the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA) to clarify transitional arrangements and define their respective roles when towns become fully urbanised and experience significant population growth.

The meeting aimed to address emerging challenges that have resulted in shortages of potable water in some communities.

Members of the Committee sought to better understand the coordination between the two agencies, particularly in situations where rapidly expanding towns transition from rural to urban status.

The Minister for Works and Housing, Hon. Kenneth Adjei, was present at the meeting. Also in attendance were the Chairman of the Water and Sanitation Committee, Hon. John Oti Bless, along with other dignitaries and key stakeholders in the water sector.

Speaking during the session, the Member of Parliament for Salaga South Constituency, Hon. Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimiah, emphasized the need for clear institutional collaboration to ensure uninterrupted access to safe drinking water for growing communities.

The Committee reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening policy direction and improving service delivery in the water sector to meet the demands of Ghana’s increasing urban population.
