Malaria Cases Decline As Effia Kwesimintsim Intensifies Testing And Prevention – Municipal Health Director.

The Municipal Health Director for Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly, Mad. Joyce Begyina, has revealed that malaria is no longer the leading cause of hospital visits in the municipality, following intensified interventions and strict testing protocols.

Speaking during the municipality’s annual health performance review meeting, Mad. Begyina explained that although malaria used to top the list of common conditions reported at health facilities, the trend has significantly changed due to sustained prevention and control measures.

According to her, respiratory tract infections have now overtaken malaria as the most common condition reported at health centres in the municipality.

She noted that in previous years, malaria cases were often treated based on symptoms without laboratory confirmation.

But now, we test every suspected case to confirm before treatment is given,” she stated.

Mad. Begyina emphasized that Ghana is currently at the malaria elimination stage, thanks to several coordinated national and local interventions.

On the other hand, the physician assistant of Anaji health centre , Patience Oduro in an interview said the Anaji health facility requires urgent expansion because the existing structure is very small.

She reveal they do not have a proper admission or detention area, and there are no separate male and female wards.

The only available room serves multiple purposes it functions as both the ward and the treatment area.

There is therefore a strong need for infrastructure expansion to create adequate space and provide quality healthcare services to the people.

End.
