Government Urges To Construct Dams For Local Tomatoes Farmers.

Tomato traders in the Ashanti region are sounding alarm, urging the government to support local farmers and learn from Burkina Faso’s approach.

They’re struggling with high transportation costs and taxes imposed by the Burkinabé government, making the business unprofitable.

With Burkina Faso’s tomato production dwindling, Ghanaian traders are calling on the government to back local farmers so that the prices of tomatoes will reduce drastically.

“They have the capacity to produce more tomatoes than Burkina Faso,” they say.

The traders are specifically requesting a dam to support farmers in some parts of the country, ensuring a steady supply of tomatoes even when Burkina Faso’s season ends.

This could boost local production, reduce reliance on imports, and create jobs.

The call comes as tomato prices soar, leaving traders and consumers struggling and also the new taxes introduced by the Burkina Faso President.

By investing in local farmers, the government could help stabilize prices and grow the economy.
