Refrain From Politicizing Cocoa Prices – National Best Cocoa Farmers To politicians

The conversation around cocoa prices in Ghana has become highly polarized, with both the government and the opposition trading accusations regarding the management of the sector and recent price adjustments for the 2025/2026 season.

National Best Cocoa Farmer, Mr. Edward Kwame Yeboah, expressed concern over the politicization of the current crisis in the cocoa industry during a press conference held in Ahafo Ano North (Mankraso) on 24th February, 2026.

Mr. Edward Kwame Yeboah stated in a media address that the time has come for the nation to re-examine the cocoa sector and explore potential reforms to benefit cocoa farmers.

The government initially announced a significant producer price hike to US$5,040 per tonne (GH¢51,660 per tonne) for the 2025/2026 season.

However, this was subsequently reviewed downwards to GH¢41,392 per tonne (GH¢2,587 per bag), which the Minority in Parliament has condemned as illegal.

The Minority has accused the government of deceiving farmers, while the Majority has countered that the opposition is politicizing a global crisis and that the price reduction is necessary due to falling international market prices.

Some farmers and political figures have criticized the price cuts, stating it worsens financial hardships and leads to lower income.

Conversely, some stakeholders have urged for the cessation of the politicization of the industry to focus on long-term solutions.

The ongoing debate highlights the deep political divide over the management of the critical economic sector, with demands for increased transparency and reduced political interference to secure the livelihoods of cocoa farmers.

In a media briefing, Mr. Edward Yeboah stated that, they are entirely pleased with the prevailing cocoa prices and are prepared to work alongside the government following the price adjustment.
