Salma Youth Accuse Their Chief Of Blocking Community Clay Mining Project, For Development.

Some leaders and youth of Salma in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region are calling on the government and Adamus Resources Limited to engage their chief, Nana Kwamina Bentum II, to allow clay mining activities in the community for development.

According to the youth, the community together with their chief, with the support of Adamus Resources Limited, agreed to release a clay deposit within the community for mining to generate funds for development.

They explained that they had an arrangement with a contractor who was tasked to mine the clay, where part of the proceeds would go to the chief while the remaining amount would be used for community development.

However, while the contractor was carrying out the mining activities, a group of security personnel believed to be from Adamus Resources Limited reportedly stormed the site and ordered the contractor to stop work, claiming the Chief Executive Officer of the company had directed them to halt the clay mining.

The youth say their subsequent investigations at the mining company revealed that their chief Nana Kwamena Bentum was behind the directive to stop the contractor from mining the clay.

According to them, the chief allegedly demanded that the entire payment from the contractor be given to him instead of sharing the proceeds as earlier agreed.

Leader of the group Abraham Mensah in an intervew with the media said they will not allow the chief to take the entire amount meant for community development, including his agreed share.

He is therefore calling on the government and relevant authorities to intervene and resolve the issue by engaging the chief to ensure the community benefits from the clay mining project.
