The Order From Above Must End On The Ordinary Ghanaians – Dome Market Women.

Market women at the Dome market in the Ga East Municipality have expressed their outrage following the demolition of their trading containers by municipal authorities. The action, reportedly taken “by order from above,” has left many vendors without a place to conduct their businesses, prompting calls for an end to what they describe as an unjust attitude towards ordinary Ghanaians.

The demolition, carried out by a municipal engineer, has sparked widespread discontent among the market women, who rely on their stalls for their livelihoods. Many vendors lamented that the decision was made without prior consultation or consideration of the impact on their daily lives.

The Market women in an interview with Van Brown said we are just trying to make a living for ourselves and our families, this order from above does not help us at all. We need support, not destruction.

The market women have called on local authorities to engage with them in dialogue before making decisions that affect their businesses.

Engineer Jackson Glover, the head of works at the Assembly, provided insights into the decision during a press briefing held earlier today.

Glover explained that the demolition is part of a broader initiative to improve the aesthetics and functionality of the municipality.

“The containers have been erected in areas that do not comply with our zoning regulations, and their presence has led to significant congestion and safety concerns.

He emphasized that the Assembly is committed to creating a more organized and accessible environment for both residents and visitors.

While the decision to demolish the containers has raised concerns among local traders, Glover assured them that the Assembly has giving them a place to relocation, therefore he will take them to the place for them to start their trading.

The market women have expressed their disappointment and anger, claiming that Glover’s assurances were misled.

We were hopeful when we heard about the relocation, but now we feel betrayed, we were counting on this move to improve our livelihoods, and instead, we are left with nothing.

He told us everything would be taken care of, but now we are back to square one, moreover where Engineer Jackson Glover relocated us to is already occupied by other and therefore there is no place for us to relocate to as promised.
