Over 70% Of Ghanaians Live With Oral Health Conditions…Dr Victor Painstil.

Over 70% of Ghanaians live with oral health conditions, while a staggering 84.9% have never visited a dentist, according to Dr Victor Painstil, Clinical Coordinator at Tarkwa Municipal Hospital.

Speaking at the World Oral Health Day event organised by the Goldfields Foundation, Dr Painstil highlighted the importance of oral healthcare in preventing tooth decay, gum disease, and tooth loss, all of which can affect overall health.

“Daily hygiene practices like brushing and flossing, along with regular dental visits, are crucial in preventing oral infections that can cause pain, impair nutrition, and affect self-esteem,” Dr Painstil advised.

He also urged parents to care for their children’s teeth and limit their intake of excess sugar.

Ayisha Mohammed, Project Coordinator at Goldfields Foundation, echoed the call, urging parents to teach their children to brush twice daily.

School children who participated in the event also shared the knowledge they had gained about maintaining good oral health.
