The Director-General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) Mr. Kwesi Afreh Biney has dismissed claims that claiming benefits for deceased loved ones is a challenging and time consuming.

Speaking at a stakeholder engagement with the Trades Union Congress (TUC) in Cape Coast, under the theme “Understanding the value proposition of SSNIT:

The role of organised labour as partners in promoting the scheme among workers in Ghana,” Mr. Afreh Biney highlighted massive improvements.
Previously, processing took up to 47 days due to missing information. Now, it’s a swift one-week turnaround.

He also clarified that only blood relatives not girlfriends or boyfriends can be nominated as pension beneficiaries.

“Our current processing has improved massively… Now, the standard goal is one week.”

Mr. Biney urged all workers to secure their future with regular SSNIT contributions, calling the pension superior to any investment—the longer you live, the more you benefit.

End.
