Kotokuom Youth Launch Development Group, Donate Ambulance To Improve Healthcare.

The Chairman of Kotokuom Youth for Development, Abdul Rahim Fathi, has announced the official launch of the group alongside the donation of an ambulance to the Kotokuom Health Centre to support emergency healthcare delivery in the community.

Speaking at the launch event held in Kotokuom in the Atwima Mponua District, Mr. Fathi noted that the youth group, which has been in existence for six months, has already undertaken several development initiatives.

These include the installation of streetlights and speed ramps aimed at improving safety in the area.
He explained that the decision to procure and donate an ambulance was influenced by concerns raised by health officials about the increasing number of motor accidents and the lack of a reliable means to transfer patients to other hospitals.

According to him, the situation has been particularly challenging for pregnant women who often require urgent referrals.
“In the past, it was very difficult to transfer pregnant women and other emergency cases.

The Kotokuom Health Centre serves about 15 surrounding communities, so we felt it was necessary to act rather than wait for government intervention,” he said.

Mr. Fathi also appealed to the government to support the community in constructing a police station, noting that land for the project has already been secured but funding remains a major challenge.

In an interview with Angel News, some residents expressed their gratitude to the youth group for their efforts, describing the ambulance donation as a major relief.
However, they also highlighted ongoing challenges, particularly poor network connectivity, which affects communication within the community.

Residents further pointed out the absence of a local bank and police station, explaining that they are often forced to travel to Nkawie for banking services, a situation they say exposes them to the risk of armed robbery.

The Physician Assistant Manager of the Kotokuom Health Centre, Stephen Baafi, also commended the group for the donation. He stated that the ambulance would significantly improve the hospital’s ability to refer patients in critical condition.

He added that despite the new ambulance, the health centre still faces several challenges, including a lack of essential medical equipment, inadequate staffing, and persistent network issues that hinder effective communication.

Mr. Baafi therefore called on the government to provide additional support, including more nurses and improved infrastructure, to enable the facility to deliver quality healthcare services and save lives in the community.
