Association Calls For Strong Backing Of Local Firms In Mining Sector.

The Association for Responsible Mining and Development has emphasized the need for stronger support for indigenous companies in Ghana’s mining sector, describing it as key to sustainable development and economic growth.

Speaking at a press conference, the Convener, Thomas Yaw Enyam, commended the government for its efforts in empowering local businesses through the revival of the Bogoso-Prestea Mine by Heath Goldfields.

He noted that the resumption of mining operations in the third quarter of 2025 has restored hope to Bogoso, Prestea, and surrounding communities that had suffered economic hardship following the shutdown of the mine.

According to him, Heath Goldfields has demonstrated a strong commitment to local content by engaging community-based contractors and Ghanaian-owned companies in its operations.

The association further highlighted that the company has settled outstanding salaries, bonuses, and provident fund contributions owed to workers by the previous operator for 2024 and 2025, bringing relief to many affected families.

Despite these gains, the association raised concerns about alleged interference by some individuals and groups claiming to represent community interests, warning that such actions could undermine progress made so far.

The group therefore called on government to protect the investment of Heath Goldfields and to investigate the activities of those suspected to be working against the project.
