Division Rocks Ekumfi District Assembly Former PM Slams “Witchcraft” Amidst Internal Party Strife.

Ekumfi District, Central Region – A strong call for immediate action has been issued by the former 1st, Presiding Member of the Ekumfi District Assembly, Hon. Daniel Hammond, as deep divisions within the ruling party threaten to derail the assembly’s development agenda.

Hon. Hammond has sharply criticized the current political climate, labeling the internal strife as “witchcraft” that is hindering progress.

According to Hon. Hammond, the Member of Parliament, Dr. Ekow Kwainoo, along with the District Chief Executive (DCE) and other party stalwarts, have sown discord within their own ranks.

This internal conflict has manifested acutely during the recent election for the Presiding Member, where two candidates from the same party found themselves vying for the crucial position.

“During my tenure as the first Presiding Member, such divisions were unheard of,” Hon. Hammond stated emphatically.

He believes this infighting is actively preventing the assembly from functioning effectively and serving the needs of the district.

The former PM’s strong words highlight a growing concern that political maneuvering is overshadowing the essential task of governance and development for the Ekumfi District.

He is urging for swift intervention to mend these rifts and restore unity within the assembly for the betterment of its constituents.

The assembly election has been marred by division, with concerns raised by some assembly members over political parties, specifically the NDC, fielding multiple candidates for the Assembly Presiding Member role.

This has led to a tight race, a run-off election, and the apparent rejection of the incumbent, Hon. Kakra Nkatsia Richardson, who narrowly lost the initial vote.

Assembly members are lamenting the divisive nature of recent elections, pointing to the practice of political parties, like the NDC, presenting two candidates for the Assembly Presiding member election.

This strategy is seen as a significant contributor to division within the assembly.

The incumbent Presiding Member PM, Hon. Kakra Nkatsia Richardson, has not secured enough votes to avoid a run-off.

In the first voting round, the incumbent received 19 votes, while the current contender Hon prince Danquah garnered 20 vote, forcing a second round of voting to decide the winner.
