Cyber Security Authority Slams Neglectful School Counselors For Fueling Youth Unemployment Crisis

Mr. Nelson Harry Darko, Senior Manager of Child Online Protection at the Cyber Security Authority, has raised the alarm over guidance and counseling departments in senior high schools failing their core duties.

He blames this neglect for contributing to Ghana’s soaring youth unemployment rate of 1.3 million among those aged 15 to 25.

Speaking candidly to over 1,000 Form 3 students at Aggrey Memorial Zion SHS in the Abura/Asebu/Kwamankese District, Mr. Darko urged counseling units to prioritize mentoring students in making informed career choices.

“Our guidance and counseling departments must step up to guide students toward the right futures, preventing them from swelling unemployment numbers upon graduation,” he emphasized.

Manager, highlighted how many students complete school without viable job prospects, directly linking this to inadequate career guidance.

He called on SHS students nationwide to seize opportunities by visiting the Cyber Security Authority’s online portal for job openings and training programs in the growing digital security sector.

The address took place during a PTA-organized event aimed at equipping form 3 students for global competence and national relevance.

The PTA Chairman of Aggrey Memorial Zion SHS, Mr. Omar Bin Abdullah, commended the facilitators for taking time to educate students on post-school careers.
School authorities and parents also appealed to Form 3 students just months away from sitting WASSCE—to stop “chew and pour” learning and focus on skills like excelling in practical subjects before leaving school.

Facilitors were PHG Foundation Africa, Cyber Security Authority, IDP Education and Executives of PTA members.

End.
